The reasons for delaying the analog switch digital cable is because millions of households with older TV sets are not yet ready; meaning households will not be able to watch the TV unless they install converter boxes to translate into digital signal. Some lawmakers and corporations are opposed to the delay because it is holding back the new products and technologies. Some lawmakers think that a postponed deadline would only confuse the people more. House represnetative Cliff Stearns said "No matter what date you establish, there’s always going to be somebody who doesn’t get the message." I think that his statement is true. Unless you pull the plug, people won't respond to the transition untill their tv goes static. The consumers who actually need to change their equipment are the senior citizens or farm folk who are behind times. If they haven't purchased a TV in the past 5-10 years, they would need to make the transition. The process is more difficult because some companies already started making transitions and they will be held back for another few months. The promised benefits of the transition are a clearer picture, new technology, and more bandwidth. I will not be benefited that much since my family already has digital cable from Cablevision, so they did all the transition by themselves.
